Savanna Oaks At A Glance

Savanna Oaks Middle School is a center of learning activities, extra-Curricular opportunities, and school-wide experiences tailored to middle level learners. Savanna Oaks has an active, diverse community of 466 students in grades 6, 7, and 8. Eighty full and part time staff members work with students in a state-of-the-art facility built for middle level teaching and learning. In every area from our computer labs to our science labs, from our music rooms to our LMC, parents and students will find a student-focused curriculum delivered by teachers who know young adolescents.

In 2001, Savanna Oaks Middle School was named one of the “one hundred most effective middle schools in the nation,” as part of a study conducted by the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

Students who attend Savanna Oaks come from the following neighborhoods: Belmar Hills, Chalet Gardens, City of Fitchburg, City of Madison, Eastview, Harlan Hills, Hawthorne Hills, Jamestown, Lacy Heights, Maple Grove/Prairie Hills, Military Ridge, Pine Ridge, Prairie Crest, Renaissance on the Park, Seminole Forest, Seminole Hills, Southern Ridge, Town of Middleton, Town of Montrose, Town of Verona, Wildwood South.

Enrollment

Savanna Oaks has an approximate total enrollment of 423 students and houses both a traditional middle school and a center school for English language instruction. All students are part of “houses,” smaller learning communities that ensure each student is well known by their teachers. Our population is diverse.  We currently have a minority population of 37%. Included in that statistic are students from many cultures and backgrounds.

Academics

Students at Savanna Oaks are assessed in a variety of ways. Students receive quarterly grades based on a four-point grading scale in all of their classes. All middle school students take two standardized tests. One is the state Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Exam administered in October. The second is the Measures of Academic Progress. Our ELL students do “ACCESS”.
