April is a true Madisonian, born, raised and educated here.  Growing up, she spent summers outdoors biking on great trails in the area and boating on Madison’s beautiful lakes. After graduating from West High School she attended UW-Madison, earning a Bachelors of Science in Horticulture. During college April interned at Jung Garden Center, where she learned about the
importance of landscaping for homes and the environment and developed a deep interest in perennials and other plants.  She also interned with Troy Community Farm during its groundbreaking year in 2001 as an organic CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) farm. Troy Community Farm is located in the city of Madison, and is a model and a leader in urban agriculture. April spent the following season working on the farm, and successive summers as a worker share. Shortly after graduating from college, she began working for Blue Iris Landscaping, a residential landscape company in Madison. During her five years with the company, she became a skilled retaining wall builder and a certified paver patio installer.  She also greatly expanded her knowledge of perennial plants, ornamental trees and shrubs, rain gardens, native perennials and general garden design.

For the past twelve years, April has assisted in managing the award winning Glass Nickel Pizza Company alongside her family.  There, she has learned how to run a successful business with integrity, deliver a high quality product with excellent customer service, and utilize savvy marketing.

April’s interest in houses and remodeling began as a young helper on projects with her parents who owned properties and were licensed real estate agents. More recently, April has managed the construction of a home, while continuing to remodel her current home, where she has done everything from drywalling to painting to tiling and trim work.  She is committed to green building techniques, and has installed geothermal heating, radiant floor heating, and extra insulation in her homes.

In her spare time, April enjoys gardening, boating, kayaking, biking, and cross-country skiing. She especially enjoys spending time with her two dogs, Luna and Doogie, and also with the many wonderful dogs at the Dane County Humane Society where she has volunteered since 2006. She believes in sustainable living and is passionate about local and organic foods.
